Okay. Some of you, who are interested in music, are going to really like this one: Art talks about what he thinks it takes to be a good jazz musician and about what jazz was and what it became. So, for those who've tired of the talk of drugs and sex, this bit is definitely for you. Art talks about Miles and 'Trane. And others. And two famous musicians talk about Art and the Kenton Band: Shelly Manne and "Sammy Curtis" (a pseudonym for Art's best friend, the man who betrayed him. I'm keeping him anonymous, though many will recognize him, because Art forgave him. "Billy Wilson" is a pseudonym for Chet Baker. I'm dropping his anonymity because Art never forgave him, and he's long deceased, and, as far as I know, he's left no progeny to be surprised). Author's note. I'm amused by how much Art twists his philosophy to fit Miles Davis whom he never ceased to adore. P.S. Keep in mind: All these stories about other musicians are Art's impressions, not necessarily fact.
