This is on the OMNIVORE label, and I'm promoting it because I love it so much.
I have plotted this one for nearly 20 years and, thanks to Cheryl Pawelski, it's finally available! Every last note that Art played at the LA club, The Maiden Voyage, in August, 1981, is here, spread across 7 CDs. Several albums were released by Galaxy from SOME of the material recorded on those nights, but most of those albums are no longer available. And that's what IRKED me. Art died suddenly ten months after these sessions, and this is him at the very top of his game.
This is EVERYTHING as it happened: in-between song patter and about 23 tracks which never were released.
I wrote the lengthy, gossipy liner notes and provided my personal photos, as usual. And we've scanned and published pages from Art's personal notebooks with his oh-so-conscientious critiques of these performances and his ideas about release of this material. The audio has been painstakingly restored by Michael Graves from the original reels. and, wow, it sounds fantastic.
Because it's such an important release, I want everyone to know about it. So, I'm including the 2nd tune from the first night as a FREE download for December, 2023 only. This terrific performance of Mambo Koyama has never been released before.
And, also just for this December, I'm posting streams of two MORE previously unreleased tracks, Valse Triste and Roadgame. (Actually, I'm not sure whether this version of Roadgame might have been released on one of the original 4 Maiden Voyage albums—which, like I said, are no longer available.)
Be sure to download pdfs of a few pages from the giant gorgeous, luscious booklet. They're free, too. And if you want to buy the box go to Amazon
