In honor of July 4th: Milcho Leviev, a dissident superstar, had to flee Bulgaria and come here "To be Free! To Play Jazz!" as Art Pepper put it. This is the kind of beauty you get from a (genius) refugee.

The entire Atlas 1980 recording of Art Pepper with Jack Sheldon, Milcho Leviev, Tony Dumas, and Carl Burnett will be released soon by special license to Omnivore. Entirely remastered, with missing tracks restored. Working on the liner note, re-listening over and over and over, I'm continuously blown away by Milcho's solo on this simple blues
